Urge Your U.S. Senators to Support an Accountable Transportation Bill

USCapitol

It has been 846 days since the last federal transportation program expired, and at long last Congress appears willing to take up the issue. Transportation for America reports that in this legislation are crucial provisions that would set “new, 21st-century objectives for our investments, rather than perpetuate a status quo that benefits fewer and fewer Americans,” but also reports that groups with an interest in maintaining the status quo of American transportation are already using their influence to try to get rid of these provisions.

Any national transportation program must set goals for environmental sustainability, replacement of infrastructure overdue for repair, public transportation access improvements, safety and reduction of fatalities, as well as hold all levels of government accountable in implementing these improvements. In the few days before this quick process moves to the hearing and floor debate phase in the Senate, it’s important for senators to know that their constituents are following the process and demand that any bill make the national transportation system work for more Americans.

Transportation for America has set up an easy way to show your support to Senators Mikulski and Cardin. Just submit your zip code here and a concise message appears in support of transportation reform. Just edit it to your liking, add your name if you choose, and hit send.
