If you have an amazing idea to excel the city of Baltimore, but need assisted funding to launch it, you are in luck. Ignite Baltimore is a yearly event in which “16 artists, technologists, thinkers, and personalities” give a five-minute, twenty-slide presentation in order to “spark new conversations and collaborations across cultures and disciplines.” In that spirit, these events feature a presentation of two $2,250 “Ignition Grants” to projects “that aim to make Baltimore a better place to live and work.” The grants are funded by the ticket revenue from the Ignite Baltimore presentations.
Here are a few of the projects that have earned Ignition Grants in the past.
- “a filmmaking course for youth in the Walbrook neighborhood”
- “interviews with people who are homeless to encourage understanding of the experience of homelessness”
- “video tours of Baltimore’s parks and trails”
- “development of a website to showcase Baltimore’s dance community”
Applications must be submitted by 11:59pm on September 30th, 2012, and the announcement of grantees will happen at Ignite Baltimore on October 18th. The application is available to download from the Ignition Grant webpage.
If you’ve always had an idea for a project to improve Baltimore, here’s your chance to fund your dream!
