Maryland is now among the states in which voters can register to vote, update registration information, and check registration status online. Marylanders wishing to register online may do so here. For the purposes of verification, a valid state driver’s license or state ID is required to register online. If you don’t have either, you can still use the site to fill in the registration form, but you must then mail the form to the Board of Elections. 200 people had used the online service by the morning of Tuesday, August 7th, just after the state board of elections began promoting the new option, according to an article in the Washington Post.
The online option will be beneficial for Maryland, as State employees will have to decipher fewer handwritten forms and, ideally, will be able to approve registrations more quickly. The matching of license numbers with names through online registration will make voter fraud even more unlikely than it already is, the Post quotes BOE registration chief Mary Cramer Wagner as saying.
Registration for November’s general election ends on October 16th in Maryland. Make sure you’re registered today!
