Welcoming America, a grassroots-driven collaborative that fosters “mutual respect and cooperation between foreign-born and U.S.-born Americans,” is holding National Welcoming Week this week (September 15th-22nd) across the country. Examples of what’s happening include the passage of local and state government resolutions to condemn divisive policies that fail to recognize the valuable contributions of immigrants, the passage of local resolutions pledging to becoming the most immigrant friendly city in the country, an innovative public education campaign in Rhode Island, and joint native-born citizen and immigrant service projects in North Carolina and Alabama.
More information on events in the region this week, and a larger explanation of what this week is meant to accomplish, is available at the Welcoming America website.
