Participate in This Month’s National Voter Registration Day

National Voter Registration Day is a great opportunity both to ensure members of your community are able to vote in the general election on November 6th, and for a neighborhood or organization to spend a day working together. National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) will be held all day on September 25th, and is designed to be a “day of coordinated field, technology and media efforts will create pervasive awareness of voter registration opportunities–allowing us to reach tens of thousands of voters or more who we could not reach otherwise,” according to the Day’s home page.

National Voter Registration Day aims to remedy the fact that in the last presidential election, six million Americans did not vote specifically because they did not know how to register or missed their state’s registration deadline. The goals of the day are large in scale, but the efforts will be local and community-based. The extensive list of NVRD partners includes colleges, local nonprofits, unions, and more. When you sign up to host or join an event, you’ll be able to see what registration drives are going on in the area, and whether you’d like to join that effort or start your own, and the various other ways you can help, from allowing individuals registering voters onto your property, to making a contribution or in-kind donation to NVRD. Everything you need to find out how you can help is on the National Voter Registration Day site.

Also, consider supporting the National Low Income Housing Coalition‘s Voterization Project and developing a plan for your organization through it.
