Photos from Fall 2012 AYIC: University

Group Shot - Big - cropped

A few attendees gathered at the end of CPHA’s Activate Your Inner Citizen: University for a group photo, which was quite a fun endeavor to coordinate!  All of the event photos are available (without logging in) in an album on CPHA’s Facebook page.

CPHA’s Facebook page can be viewed – while not signed in to Facebook – at this link: www.facebook.com/bmorecpha.  (Should a pop-up box appear asking you to sign in, click the green “close” button and continue browsing the page.)

Overall, the event was a wild success.   In addition to bringing a new community association member into the CPHA fold, New Broadway East Community Association, our Executive Director, Mel Freeman, gave a current community association member organization (Metropolitan Harlem Park CDC) a unique neighborhood planning seminar.  The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is building the capacity of refugee community leaders, and three refugees attended CPHA’s AYIC:U with IRC staffperson, Kevin Meadowcroft.  We were thrilled to have these new leaders learn the skills they need to be engaged with their communities.

In addition to these special aspects to the day, the Fall 2012 event included an informative opening with Dr. John Bullock, who explained the 20 ballot questions voters will need to answer on Election Day.   Three organizations also had resource tables at the event with information about the Baltimore Wake Up, Rec & Parks’ aquatics public meetings, and the Financial Planning Day in October.  Morgan State University was a gracious host, and provided some last minute technical assistance that helped the event run without a glitch.

Attendees chose from nine classes including: Grants 101, Keeping Your Organization Legit, BNIA’s Statistics, Neighborhood Planning, Voter Registration, Code Enforcement, Drug & Alcohol Abatement, Volunteer Management, & Community Newsletters.

CPHA is incredibly grateful to the volunteer instructors who took time out of their Saturdays to share their expertise by teaching these nine courses. CPHA is also grateful to our speaker, Dr. Bullock, our CPHA Board member, Eugene Peterson, who attended, and the ten CPHA interns who really put in their all to make the day incredible.
