False Promises for Baltimore

Citizens Planning and Housing Association’s (CPHA’s) board president recently wrote this op-ed in the Washington Post on Maryland Governor Larry Hogan’s avowed commitment to Baltimore after the death of Freddie Gray and the ensuing riots. Hogan promised that he would address the underlying issues facing West Baltimore, but his actions provide evidence to the contrary. From cancelling the long planned Red Line transit, and in the process turning down Federal funding; to rejecting rental agreements for the state center – a $1.5 billion transformation project for West Baltimore, Hogan has shown a lack of action to back up his words. Other actions include opposing legislation for transparency concerning funding for public transport projects, and an underwhelming budget for demolition of vacant properties.
