GIS/ Mapping Analyst Intern

Use your GIS skills to help strengthen Baltimore neighborhoods!

Benefits of an Internship with CPHA:

  • The intern will learn about pressing issues facing the Baltimore metropolitan area and opportunities to address them on the local, regional and state level.
  • The intern will meet with CPHA’s partners and assist in regional and local initiatives in the area of housing, transit, neighborhoods and/or leadership development.
  • The intern will learn about working with a nonprofit organization, and will learn about the culture of nonprofits.

Possible Projects Include:

  • Mapping for Neighborhood Solutions is a CPHA program designed to assist community associations find solutions for issues in their neighborhood using maps. The intern will use maps as a tool for targeted community problem solving, map solutions and assets for community associations
  • Housing Advocacy: compile data and reports on fair housing policies, map housing developments, foreclosure data and demographic data by census tract.
  • Transit Oriented Advocacy: create maps displaying best practices for bus lines and alternative bus routes for improved efficiency.
  • CPHA Activities: map event attendees, neighborhood-level information, CPHA focus-areas, membership, and neighborhood capacity.
  • Intern-driven Project: Topic-specific research and mapping, as chosen by the intern and CPHA

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience mapping using ArcGIS.
  • Access to ArcGIS software (none is provided by CPHA).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with CPHA staff and community members.
  • Interest in community action, research, public policy, advocacy and influencing the legislative process.
  • Passion for improving communities and strong personal values that align with CPHA’s Vision and Mission.

How to apply:

This internship is unpaid.  Mapping internships are not location-specific, and tasks may be completed off-site.  However, an interview in person is required, and occasional meetings on site are necessary.  Internship dates and application deadlines are rolling.  CPHA accepts applications and new interns throughout the year. Students should email a resume and cover letter to melf@cphabaltimore.org.  Once you’ve submitted a resume with a brief cover letter/email, CPHA will contact you and set up a time to interview.  Since CPHA has a rolling application deadline, internships start when you are available.
