LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNITY BUILDING

Community leaders create the conditions where families can thrive. They are not out front claiming credit or giving orders and their steady day-to-day work and dedication make it possible for countless citizens to live a better life. For close to 65 years, CPHA has been a place neighbors could turn to get answers and to get help. The Resource Center for Neighborhoods fields hundreds of calls every year from community leaders who need information or assistance.

"How do we get more people to come to our meetings?"

"We want to show a movie in the park but we don't have the right equipment."

"We'd like to get grant money but we don't have a 501(c)(3). Should we apply for one?"

"My neighbors are new to the community and never put their trash out on time. It's causing problems for the entire block. What can we do?"

These are just a few of the calls received every week at the Resource Center for Neighborhoods.

Leadership Development
Real Time Community Change (RTCC) is a results based small grants program developed by the Rensselaerville Institute of New York. RTCC is designed to encourage resident leadership and grassroots neighborhood change by directly engageing residents in improving their own communities. Residents are given an opportunity to develop and implement neighborhood change strategies in "real time" - 6 months - with the assistance of a coach and a small grant up to $4000.

Tip Sheets
CPHA has Tip Sheets that provide tips on Youth and Education, Law Making and Enforcing, Effective Outreach, Organizing, Crime and Safety, and Housing and Sanitation.

Community Equipment Bank
The Community Equipment Bank provides a "lending library" of key resources for community associations from digital cameras to bull-horns.

Resource Library
There are books and videos on Community Development, Youth Engagement, Fundraising, Board Development and much, much more! There is also a copier, computer lab, and space for meetings. Our computer lab is fully equipped with programs to create and print beautiful full color flyers, brochure, signs, and newsletters for all your neighborhood needs!

Need Help with a Community Issue?
From how to start a new organization to working with difficult neighbors, CPHA is able to provide one-on-one assistance to help solve community problems. If you feel like you want to change something in your neighborhood but you just don't know how, CPHA can help.

"The Resource Library allows me to use my time creatively; increasing focus and vision, removing limitations and reservations, and encouraging ideas and aspiration."
