CPHA's Economic Recovery for Neighborhoods Initiative
-ERNI-
In April of 2009, Mayor Dixon assembled a team of representatives from each city department to maximize the use of stimulus funds made available under the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
While city officials have been working hard under tight deadlines to bring in $225 million in federal stimulus funds, CPHA has convened the Economic Recovery for Neighborhoods Initiative (ERNI) to ensure that funds flowing through the ARRA are used to benefit Baltimore's neighborhoods in effective ways. ERNI will complement the City's new coordinating group, the Baltimore Economic Recovery Team (BERT) and has four main goals:
1. Share information about ARRA funds with community leaders and citizens through meetings, mailings, a web site, and forums with City representatives;
2. Advocate for effective use of ARRA funds by the City and State to improve the quality of life in Baltimore's neighborhoods, to build community capacity, and to spur local living wage jobs;
3. Help citizens and groups access ARRA funds intended for them; and
4. Monitor the City's progress as it spends ARRA funds.
By sharing the community's insight with BERT and disseminating information about resources to community, we believe that Baltimore's recovery will increase in transparency and effectiveness. ERNI is seeking city-wide citizen participation in a continual exchange of bold, innovative ideas about how to maximize the opportunity presented through the ARRA.
